Set in the 90s, Badmaash Company simply put is a the story of 4 youngsters Karan (Shahid Kapoor), Bulbul (Anushka Sharmar), Chandu (Vir Das) and Zing (Meiyang Chang) who want to make it big in life and they want to do it quick. Thus begins their journey of hustling and working the streets. With one big deal that allows them to sell imported products in India, Karan masterminds their success and surely enough he money comes their way. Overnight the four college kids go from broke to super rich. The designer clothes, cars, plush homes and a swanky office. But with the change in government rules suddenly means their con deals to import goods cheap comes to a grinding halt. And this means only thing – either going back to the life of struggle or finding some new people to con and make quick money.

No prizes for guessing what Karan and his friends choose. And so begins round two of playing with the law, conning their way through business deals. Only this time it happens in USA. But like most good things this too had to come to an end. In fights, betrayal, greed and trouble with the law result in the four parting ways and going their separate ways. A twist of events results in Karan knocking at the doors of the very friends he has pushed away. Will they help him?

For me Badmaash Company works on many levels. Let’s start with the script and screenplay. Tight, direct, quick and well thought out make it a fun watch. And the fact that the script is by the debutant director Parmeet Sethi makes it an effort that deserves extra praise. For a newcomer he’s done a good job. In terms of direction, Sethi has stuck to the story and given good attention to detail. Each of the 4 stars have equal and important roles. Each of them have distinct traits and mannerisms all of which make them very endearing.

Overall Badmaash Company is more than a decent watch. It could go on to become the one movie that can change the track record for Yash Raj films. And wouldn’t that be a homecoming of sorts for Parmeet who played a small role in YRF’s most successful film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
