There is something about Bollywood that draws hordes of people to it each day. Perhaps it’s just the glitz and glamour or maybe something else. I may never entirely be sure. But I am quite certain that Gayatri Patel, the leading lady of this week’s release is quite enamoured by the industry. The movie borrows from Hollywood films top-lining bright young things struggling to make it on the dance floor, with some Bollywood twists thrown in.The Film revolves around Gayatri Patel, the daughter of Dr Arvind Patel, who (we are told) owns a chain of motels in the US. So when his little daughter wanted to make a splash in tinsel town, Dr Patel must have decided to make a movie for her.Let’s Dance is the story of a dancer, Suhani (Gayatri Patel) who wants to make it big in showbiz without accepting the strings that come attached along with it.So you have Suhani turning down the casting couch, refusing to wear revealing clothes and still trying hard to find a foothold. Meanwhile she also teaches a bunch of underprivileged kids (who strangely don’t look underprivileged at all) how to dance.

Fighting all odds, she believes she will be able to make it one day, much to the anguish of her realistic journalist roommate. One night Suhani discovers a few slum kids dancing by the side of the road and invites them over to her school. Around the same time she also meets Neil (Ajay Choudhary) a neighbouring restaurant owner who will be the love of her life.Unlike everyone around her, Neil believes in Suhani’s dream of working with a hotshot music video director RJ (Aqib Afzal). As luck has it, Suhani’s wish is fulfilled and she starts working for RJ. Things begin to look up for her till the landlord (Anjan Srivastava) threatens to sell off the place where Suhani runs her dance school.

Suhani offers to buy out the property. But having turned down RJ’s advances and gets blacklisted leaving her with no work and money to save the school. So drawing inspiration from Aaja Nachle (strangely the title of this movie is a lose English translation of the Madhuri Dixit-starrer) Suhani organises a dance show…

Debutante Gayatri Patel is a flexibly fabulous dancer and a confident actress but doesn’t rise above the tacky script. Her face bears resemblance to actress Rimi Sen while anatomy reminds of Antra Mali from Naach.Aquib Afzal is a cross between Vivek Oberoi and Rajat Bedi in looks and has a strong hangover of the former in his performance.Ajai Chowdhary has rehearsed expressions.Abhaas Yadav as the leader of the street kid gang exudes fake attitude but flawless dancing flair.Sugandha Garg (of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na fame) is wasted in an inconsequential role.
