Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is an Hindi film made in 1999.It was released in the English-speaking world as Straight from the Heart.It was filmed throughout the Gujarat-Rajasthan border region, in addition to Budapest, Hungary, which was used to represent Italy.It stars Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ajay Devgan and is centred around a love triangle.Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was well received by most critics. In particular, Aishwarya Rai was lavishly praised in her role, which many critics considered to be sensitively played by the actress. The film also became a hit at the Indian box office, but also in the foreign box office, which was mostly credited to Aishwarya Rai’s box office draw among NRIs. As such, the film is considered to be a breakthrough role for her, not only winning her critical acclaim, but also cementing her box office stature. This was the first movie to star the then real life couple, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai.

Indian-based traditional family of Pundit Darbar (Vikram Gokhale) gets a visit from Sameer Rafilini (Salman Khan), from Italy, who has come as a pupil to learn music and singing.Darbar and his family accept him.Sameer meets Nandini (Aishwarya Rai), Darbar’s daughter, and both fall in love.But Darbar wants Nandini to wed Vanraj (Ajay Devgan), and has Sameer swear that he will leave India, and not marry Nandini, as his guru-dakshina (fee), to which Sameer agrees. Nandini is heart=broken, but does reluctantly marry Vanraj.When Vanraj finds out that Nandini is in love with Sameer, he takes her to Italy, so that both can be together again.

While in Italy robbers tries to loot them and shoots at Nandini.Nandini is admitted into hospital. While in the hospital, Nandini comes to know about Vanraj’s large heartedness.She starts liking him.Incidentally, Samir and Vanraj meet each other.They become good friends.They pray for Nandini together.Samir teaches Vanraj a few notes of classical songs.But Vanraj does recognize Samir.Finally, the time comes for the two lost lovebirds to meet. Samir is giving his first grand show at the Opera House.His Italian mother (Helen) tells him about Nandini.But when Samir comes to hug her, he finds her very cold. She tells him about her husband Vanraj.Now it is turn of the hero to see reason.Samir decides to ‘free’ Nandini.Nandini meanwhile has already fallen in love with Vanraj.
