Shoot On Sight is undoubtedly a relevant film that comes a little late in the day because stories of terrorism and profiling of the Muslim community have already become a tad stereotypical. Director Jagmohan Mundhra borrows a great deal from real life and gives it a spin to tell a tale from the perspective of a Muslim man at an influential position in London.The movie is set right after the London train bombings of July 2005 and the ensuing ‘shoot on sight’ orders to the police in which an innocent Brazilian (who ran into the tube station) was killed because the cop who pulled the trigger thought him to be a terrorist.
The film has been inspired by the suicide bombings in London of July 7, 2005, in which four British Muslims killed themselves and 52 other innocent people in London. Those injured totalled to about 700. The film shows the turmoil in the life of Tariq Ali (Naseeruddin Shah) who is a Muslim police officer at Scotland Yard.

Commander Ali was originally born in Lahore, and got married to an English woman.He has been given the responsibility to investigate the police shooting of a suspected Muslim terrorist in the London Underground. But he faces the task to be the challenge of his life as he is distrusted by both his superiors and his fellow Muslims.As a result he finds his inquiry was being hampered from all sides.When evidence surfaces pointing to the slain man’s innocence, as well as the existence of a terrorist cell operating in his own backyard, Tariq must face the realisation that sometimes, the right decision is the hardest one to make.
