Mast is a story of a young boy’s obsession with an actress. It’s made in a fifties style Hollywood musical. But it fails to live up to the pre-release hype created in the media .
Krishna Kant aka Kittu (Aftab Shivdasani), a final year student in Pune, belongs to a happy family. He has an affectionate mother, a sensitive father (Played by Dilip Tahil) and a loving sister. Kittu is madly in love with a famous filmstar, Mallika (Urmila). And, as a result of this obsessive fascination,he fails his exams. One day Kittu’s father, in a fit of rage, storms into Kittu’s room and tears every Mallika poster in it.This makes Kittu angry. He leaves his family and catches a train to Bombay. There he reaches Mallika’s house, but could not see her.Kittu finds refuge in a café, run by Usmaan Bhai (Neeraj Vora), right next to Mallika’s mansion.
Kittu comes to know that Mallika is mistreated by an evil uncle who seems to have complete control over her.He somehow manages to get into her house, witnesses a torture session and knocks the wicked uncle out. There begins the love story.
The movie climaxes with proverbial twists, but still keeps one interested all the way.
Newcomer Aftab relies heavily on his youthful charm. Urmila looks beautiful and fresh.
Sandeep Chowta’s music is not able to produce the kind of magic one would expect from such movie.
Ruki Ruki Thi Zindagi is the only hummable number in the film.
Mast is a typical Ram Gopal Varma style entertainer for movie lovers
