David Dhawan’s latest film Yeh Hai Jalwa, released in 3 July 2002 starring brawny Salman and lissome Amisha, is a ludicrous comedy with a dose of crass and slapstick humor that hardly invokes any laughter.The film is the story of a son’s search for his father.
Raju (Salman) is a happy-go-lucky guy whose fun-filled life is thrown into confusion after he comes to know that his father (whom he had presumed dead) is alive and is in fact among the richest businessmen in U.K. He leaves his home in Mumbai and flies to London in search of his father Rajesh Mittal (Rishi Kapoor).Soon, at his arrival to london he comes to knew that his father already has a family comprising of a loving wife Smita(Rati Agnihotri) and a cute daughter Rinki (Rinkie Khanna).

Raju approaches Mittal family with the hope of finding a place in his father’s heart but he fails. Rajesh Mittal is too adamant to accept Raju even as his illegitimate son.Meanwhile, Raju also bumps into lissome Sonia (Amisha Patel), falls in love with her, and also gets to dance around the trees with her once in a while when he is not winning over the Mittal family.Raju’s repeated attempts to find a father in Rajesh only create problems in Mittal household.But he is determined to stay.What follows is a senseless mix of foolhardy comedy and mushy sentiments.

Yeh Hai Jalwa is bristled with blunt-edged humor that is not only coincidental but also out of place.The jokes, pranks and funny one-liners are forced into the script to lend a punch to otherwise absent storyline.And the flow of narrative (whatever little there is) is constantly broken by the bump and grind act featuring Salman and Amisha.
