A commercial and critical smash in India, Rakesh Roshan’s Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai offers ample proof that beautiful stars, exotic locations and vapid storylines follows the present trend of yuppie love culture.But it has some typical Rakesh Roshan elements also.This is his son Hritik Roshan’s debut film,so main focus is on his character.Borrowing from just about every Bollywood hit from the last five years, Roshan’s film carefully packages together all the requisite elements of a Bollywood blockbuster, but lacks most of the passion.
The film begins with a focus on Rohit (Hritik Roshan), an orphan, who lives with his younger brother, Amit (Abhishek Sharma), in a room rented from the kindly D’Souzas (Farida Jalal, Satish Shah).Rohit has a dream to become a singer and en route meets a rich girl Sonia (Amisha Patel),a wealthy but good-natured girl who has a villainous father, Anupam Kher.Due to circumstances not worth explaining, the two end up stranded on a deserted island together where they sing to one another and fall in love, before Sonia’s father shows up to take them back to civilization.

To prove his worth to Sonia’s disapproving father, Rohit, with the help of his friends, launches a successful singing career, which eventually leads to him organizing a concert for his legion of fans.However, on the day of the event, Rohit witnesses a murder and is chased by the corrupt police Shinde (Ashish Vidyarthi) and Kadam (Mohnish Behl),who run him and his motorcycle off the road and into the ocean.Although his body is not recovered, Rohit is presumed dead.

A heart-broken Sonia is packed off to New Zealand where she where she bumps into suave and stylish Rohit’s look-alike, Raj.He is an upbeat version of Rohit and has a ‘with it’ attitude which is revealed at a dance in the disco.Raj falls in love with Sonia who is just not interested because his physical appearance brings back too many painful memories.However he follows her to India whereas Saxena and his thugs mistake Raj for Rohit and start following him. The rest is just like any other such film. After lot of maar-dhaad the film concludes.
