“DOUBLE CROSS - EK DHOKA” represents the changing face of Hindi cinema.Director Sabir S. takes a modern-day plot, but, unfortunately, tackles it like most ordinary film-makers did so in the 1970s.Based on a true story the film starts with a monologue by Ayesha Julka who describes it as a real-life story the film had the ingredients to shock and tease the moviegoer, but all it does is make an effort to titillate in an extremely tacky and abrupt fashion. And the culmination to this complex story is another snag that only complicates matters.
The story of this movie was loosely based on a true story. Sonia, a wealthy and educated entrepreneur from Cape Town, travels to India to marry a good husband. There she meets and weds uneducated but a good look man Sahil, taking him back with her to London. Then he is forced by her into prostitution to maintain their lifestyle, she blackmails him into continuing with threats of revealing his behavior to his folks back home.
Getting back to business, Sonia was warned by local inspector, Vicky to stop her illegal practice. But the shrewd Sonia has developed such a vast network that Inspector Vicky’s wife too happens to be one of Sahil’s clients.Subsequently when Sahil lands up behind bars,Sonia has a change of heart and decides to change her outlook towards her husband and her life.Unfortunately she’s loosed sahil as her husband and Negar are deeply in love.
Later Sonia and Sahil have a bitter confrontation that winds up with both of them assaulting the other. In the midst of all this,Sonia is found raped and dead in her apartment. The needle of suspicion points towards Sahil. But Negar admits to killing Sonia. The plot thickens? as there is no dearth of suspects. As a whole the plot of the film revolves around Sonia’s plan to use her own husband into the gigolo business and handles his clients herself.
