Damadamm (2011) *LQ*

Himesh is the star employee in a film production company and has a live-in girlfriend too. Life looks good except for the fact that the girlfriend is over possessive and loves to keep him on a tight leash. When she goes on a family trip to Indore, Himesh suddenly discovers the joys of freedom and finds a new friend in Sonal Sehgal, the proprietor’s sister. Will he be able to get back to his old, suffocating relationship?

Ironically, it’s the songs of the film which stand out much more than the script, narrative, drama and performances. Umrao Jaan, Madhushala and the title track are extremely peppy numbers which suddenly infuse life in an otherwise comatose film. So what does this prove? While Himesh remains an excellent music director, his acting skills will always remain largely a one-man belief: his own.

Here, he romances not one but two pretty women and both are ready to eat out of his hand for the elusive ever-after. Now, nothing could be more preposterous than that. Imagine your friendly neighbourhood simpleton — a nice man of course– swantering down your street with two svelte young things on his arms. Hard to imagine! With the twin love comes the twin dilemma too. Should he opt for the rich girl who holds the key to a golden future or should he rebuild bridges with his soulmate of the past and settle for the sweet domesticity of middle classs married life, with all its ups and downs?

Indeed a difficult task for our deadpan hero.
